The University of Northampton's School of Health recently
welcomed a group of VIP visitors from Reach College in Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia.
Reach College is a small and relatively new private institution
in Kuala Lumpur, developing a wide range of undergraduate degree
programmes for students. It operates as part of the Yasmin Group,
which also has business interests in the petrochemical,
pharmaceutical and conservation sectors.
The regulatory Malaysian Nursing Board is now taking a similar
approach to the Nursing and Midwifery Council in the UK, with
student nurses moving to an all-degree profession system over the
coming two years.
Moira Ingham, Associate Dean of the School of Health, explained:
"We were delighted to invite our Malaysian colleagues to The
University of Northampton.
"I first visited Kuala Lumpur in 2008, which resulted in a
collaborative agreement between our two institutions, along with
the creation of a joint post-registration BSc Nursing degree
programme which will begin in March 2012."
The University will continue to maintain close links with Reach
College, with future projects and research focussing on healthcare
management, occupational therapy, mental health and diabetes.
