Erdington MP Jack Dromey put his construction and childcare
skills to the test when he visited a training organisation that has
been tackling youth unemployment for more than 30 years.
He was very keen to meet learners at Enta CIC, a social
enterprise that has helped thousands of teenagers secure training,
apprenticeship opportunities and paid-for employment.
The high profile visitor was joined by Councillor Catharine
Grundy (Labour / Kingstanding) as he toured Enta's training centre
and construction workshop at Mill Wharf, Aston.
The duo also dropped into Little Mill, Enta's nursery that
operates as a social enterprise and provides valuable training
opportunities for those interested in a career in childcare.
Before leaving, the MP presented 40 teenagers with certificates
for their achievements in a variety of areas.
MP Jack Dromey, also Shadow Communities and Local Government
Minister, said: "Enta is a lifeline for young people across the
city who would otherwise have no hope of training or finding
work.
"For a long time I have supported the work and impact of the
organisation and it was really good to meet those young people who
are trying to build a better future for themselves."
Kevin Hayes, Chief Executive of Enta, said: "Welcoming Jack and
Catharine to Enta was a pleasure for our staff and our learners; we
were all delighted to show off the great work we do here.
"Our organisation has evolved to meet the needs of some of
Birmingham's most disadvantaged people and we really are making a
huge difference - it was good that our local politicians had the
opportunity to see this and meet the young people we are working
with every day."
Enta CIC is a Birmingham based social enterprise that provides
real life chances for local people and transforms communities.
