Birmingham-based Seddon Construction has secured five new
contracts in the Midlands, together worth £6.25 million. Part
of the national Seddon Group, the firm is based locally in Summer
Lane, Birmingham.
Among the new projects is a £4.25 million scheme to build
a warehouse for iron castings manufacturer Castings Plc in
Brownhills, Walsall.
The 4,170 sq m new steel-framed facility will be built on waste
land next to the existing Castings factory and head office in
Lichfield Road. Seddon Construction will also create new car
parking and an access road. The new building, set to be completed
in January 2012, forms part of a major expansion by
Castings.
Seddon has also been appointed by Cadbury Sixth Form College in
Kings Norton, Birmingham, to carry out a £1.0 million
new-build and refurbishment contract. The scheme includes the
construction of a new classroom block adjoining the college's main
building and the remodelling, refurbishment and reroofing of
an existing classroom block. The work is due to be completed in
December 2011.
Other new contracts for Seddon include a £300,000 scheme
for Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust to build a first-floor
extension for the Ruth Astles Building at Heartlands Hospital,
Bordesley Green East, Birmingham. This is the latest in a series of
improvement and refurbishment schemes by Seddon at the hospital
over the last three years. Seddon has also been selected by
Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council to carry out a scheme to
alter the existing council offices - Sandwell Council House - in
Freeth Street, Oldbury, to create break-out areas for staff over
four floors.
In addition, Seddon has been chosen by affordable and supported
housing provider Home Group for a £485,000 contract to
convert London House in Madeley, Telford, into six self-contained
flats for local people with a disability. The work is set to be
completed in February 2012.
"In what remains a challenging market for construction, Seddon's
ability to deliver competitively priced, high-quality new-build and
refurbishment construction projects on time and budget is enabling
us to continue to win work across a range of sectors," says Seddon
Construction business unit manager Richard Sapcote. "It is
fantastic to have secured these contracts as part of our continuing
expansion in the region. We expect this year's annual turnover in
the Midlands to be over £10 million and are looking to double
that by 2013."
Seddon Construction is part of the national Seddon Group, a
family-owned company specialising in construction, painting and
maintenance and housebuilding. The Birmingham office specialises in
construction projects in the housing, care home, health and
education sectors as well as general construction.
