The International Convention Centre (ICC) Birmingham has
appointed Paul Rutherford as its new General Manager to oversee all
operational elements of the city centre venue, and assist its
experienced team in developing more external venue management
opportunities.
Paul joins the ICC Birmingham from tour operator Page & Moy,
where he worked for more than three years as Commercial Director.
Here he managed the business' operations at the Monaco Grand Prix,
several cruise ships, and customer returns programmes during crisis
situations, such as the volcanic ash cloud and tsunami in
Japan.
Commenting on his appointment, Paul said: "The ICC has helped
Birmingham become renowned for being one of the leading business
destinations in the country, and I'm very excited about this new
opportunity to develop the business as the venue approaches its
21st anniversary next April."
Drawing on his vast level of commercial experience, Paul will
work closely with Catherine Newhall-Caiger who moves into a new
role as Business Development Director of the ICC's management team
- Group Convention Centres (GCC) - to pursue new venue management
contracts in convention centres around the world.
Catherine's move to this new position also sees ICC Sales
Director, Liz Carnell, attain the role of Director of International
Sales for GCC, which incorporates both the ICC and The Convention
Centre Dublin (CCD).
Nick Waight, Managing Director of GCC, said: "Catherine and Liz
have been with the business for several years and Paul will
complement their expertise, and ensure that we continue to be
recognised as one of the leading venue management teams in the
world.
"The recent first anniversary of The CCD has highlighted the
impact that our team can make in a world class convention centre,
by helping secure more than 300 events and accommodating 170,000
visitors in this inaugural 12-month period.
"We've got a fantastic team and proven track record of
delivering for our clients, so there are very exciting times ahead
for GCC."
