With plans to mark the Queen's Royal Jubilee - and the Woodland
Trust's vision to create 60 Diamond Woods gathering pace - a
Lincolnshire tree specialist has launched a new venture.
Spurred on by the rising popularity of tree planting schemes to
mark special occasions, Andrew & Zoe Henderson have taken the
wraps off treesandhedging.co.uk, an online shop designed to serve
everyone from farmers to charities, school groups and
individuals.
Treesandhedging.co.uk is a sister business to Mr Henderson's
wholesale company, The British Hardwood Tree Nursery, which has a
wealth of prestigious agricultural, public and private sector
clients.
"We have spotted an opportunity to use our 20 years of
experience in this field to offer everyone a fast and easy way of
selecting and ordering trees, plants and sundries." said Mr
Henderson.
"Tree schemes are a brilliant way of marking important
milestones, such as the Royal Jubilee, but you don't need a special
occasion to get planting. People may get together to create
community woodlands, owners of estates may want to develop woodland
for wildlife or even for "green" fuel.
"The Tree Council's National Tree Week will be celebrated from
November 27 to December 5 and that usually results in many more
people thinking about ways of using trees to good effect in their
own environment.
"And right now is the ideal time for communities, landowners,
schools and individuals to be thinking ahead, designing a scheme
and considering which species of trees, shrubs or hedging they
might need."
Treesandhedging.co.uk offers woodland/forestry trees, hedging
plants, fruit trees, planting and gardening products - even gift
vouchers.
The new venture is also selling tree and hedgerow packs for
customers and,in addition, a Wood Fuel Pack to meet the growing
demand from people looking for new options in a climate of soaring
fuel costs.
"We have been very careful over the design of
treesandhedging.co.uk becausewe wanted it to be really
user-friendly. While many people have a clear idea of what species
to order, others only have a sketchy idea," said Mr Henderson.
"That is why we have introduced a simple filter system on the
website so helpsignpost users to the ideal trees and plants to suit
their location and soil-type."
Mr Henderson said: "Smaller bare-rooted plants are available
between November and April, when they are dormant and ready for
transplanting. This is the most cost-effective form of buying
plants and people who order in advance from us will benefit from
early delivery.
"These might include garden hedges, field hedges, small copses,
woodlandsor hedgerow schemes. Visitors to www.treesandhedging.co.uk
can also find useful information guides on planting methods with
ongoing maintenance advice should this be required.
"And our own award-winning gardening expert Sue Hoy will be
writing monthly columns and blogs, packed with advice."
Treesandhedging.co.uk will distribute on a nationwide basis but
will also be offering shoppers an easy "click and collect" option
for those who live closer. The company will still be offering the
personal touch - with friendly expert advice readily available at
any time during the week.
