A Wolverhampton based tax specialist has been shortlisted for
two upcoming business awards.
R&D Tax and Grants Ltd have been shortlisted in the
Professional Services category in the Black Country Chamber Awards,
to be held on Thursday 15th September 2011 at Wolverhampton
Racecourse. The theme for the event is around International Trade
and Inward Investment and includes a presentation from keynote
speaker Susan Haird, chief executive of UKTI; a formal lunch, trade
exhibition, the awards ceremony and business workshops.
R&D Tax and Grants have been nominated in the Alliance for
the Black Country Professional Services Award category. There are
six award categories in all, and all firms shortlisted are
automatically nominated for the Winner of Winners Award, also to be
announced on the day.
R&D Tax and Grants Ltd have also been shortlisted in the
professional services category in the Birmingham Post Business
Awards, to be held on the evening of Wednesday 12 October 2011 at
the International Convention Centre, Birmingham.
Other companies in the shortlist of four include Deutsche Bank,
Swedish bank Handelsbanken and assurance company
Wesleyan.
The award judges include Wouter Schuitemaker, investment
director, Business Birmingham; Russell Lucock, City industrialist;
David Hardman, chief executive, Birmingham Science Park; Jon
Griffin, business journalist, Birmingham Post and Alun Thorne,
Editor, Birmingham Post.
R&D Tax and Grants Ltd, based in Wolverhampton, was set up
in April 2009 to assist companies who invest in research and
development (R and D) by helping them claim back extra tax relief
on every pound the business spends in developing new products or
introducing new and improved processes.
The company works with SMEs - companies with less than 500
employees and a turnover of less than 100 million euros - to help
them receive tax refunds quickly, as well as similar annual
reductions on their corporation tax bills in the future. The
specialist team assists clients in establishing whether work
carried out at the company can be classed as research and
development, before a comprehensive proof document is prepared for
and submitted to HMRC on behalf of the client. R&D Tax and
Grants operate on a no win, no fee basis, thus absorbing the risk
when deciding to take on an R and D client.
Dave Martin, director of chartered accountants Thomas Nock
Martin Limited, based at The Waterfront, West Midlands, said: "We
have worked with R&D Tax and Grants for almost two years and
have introduced them to a number of our clients. We have an
excellent relationship with the team at R&D Tax and Grants and
consider their knowledge of this very specialised area to be first
class in all aspects of the work involved."
"I'm absolutely delighted to be shortlisted for these
prestigious awards", said Mark Evans, managing director of R&D
Tax and Grants. "According to HMRC, around 6,500 SME companies
actually claim R and D tax relief each year, although HMRC believes
around 150,000 would be eligible for a tax saving of on average
£40k per annum. So if we do the maths, 150,000 times 40,000
equals an incredible £6 billion per annum, most of which is
not being claimed by UK manufacturers.
"R&D Tax and Grants was established just over two years ago,
and in that short time we have helped 75 clients claim back more
than £4.7 million in research and development reclaims. In
the Birmingham Post awards, my fellow nominees in the shortlist are
renowned international giants in the professional services sector
and it's an honour to be sharing the category with them, but I hope
I'll be standing on their shoulders at the end of the evening!"
The Black Country Chamber Awards event commences at 12.00 midday
on Thursday 15th September and closes at 5.00pm. Tickets for the
