Hydroponics entrepreneurs find perfect plot to plant a growing business

Two entrepreneurs have established a flourishing hydroponics business to help gardeners with busy lifestyles get the most out of their gardens.

Robert Herdman and Luke Hensey set up H2Grow six months ago, and have leased a 1,200 sq ft unit at Sovereign Road at SEGRO's Kings Norton Business Centre in Birmingham.

The business offers advice and equipment for effortless gardening, from solar panelled feeding systems, lighting and ventilation to irrigation and nutrients.

Jane Leedham, SEGRO Leasing Manager, said that H2Grow was one of a number of companies to recently take on new leases at Kings Norton Business Centre, and benefit from the on-site support and advice that SEGRO offers its customers.

"H2Grow offers a very innovative service and is a great addition to the network of businesses based at Kings Norton Business Centre and we wish them every success in their venture. Our business units and support services offer companies of all sizes a great environment in which to blossom and grow," she said.

H2Grow is just one of the latest businesses to sign a new lease at SEGRO's Kings Norton Business Centre. The estate has generated good leasing activity during the course of the year despite tough market conditions and it continues to attract new and existing businesses.

Jane said: "Kings Norton Business Centre has completed eleven new deals in the past eight months, providing strong testament to the popularity of the estate to occupiers. The lettings comprise more than 50,600 sq ft of space and generate a total rental income of more than £300,000."

Robert Herdman, aged 27, said: "With people's busy lifestyle today, they don't always have the time it takes to establish and maintain a garden. All too often, people end up spending most of their weekend trying to catch up on the gardening.

"We recognised that there was a need for systems that take away the time and effort a garden needs - basically, enabling a garden to look after itself. We saw that there was a niche in the market in the Birmingham area, so we chose to locate H2Grow at SEGRO's Kings Norton Business Centre in South Birmingham.

"The site suited our needs - it's within easy reach of our customer base, and offers a high level of security for the equipment we have and the service we provide," he said.

Robert said the business's success to date was down to the quality of its product, advice and service. "We pride ourselves on providing excellent customer service and the best hydroponic products available."

Kings Norton Business Centre is the premier Business Centre in south Birmingham, meeting the business space needs of a diverse range of companies. Located on a 24.3 hectare (60 acre) site, its local management team is able to cater for the needs of the occupiers from its on-site regional office. The estate is maintained on a structured basis providing a first class business and working environment, with tenants benefiting from 24-hour mobile security, CCTV coverage and consequential low crime rates.
