Despite tough competition former University of Lincoln student
Roanna Fox has landed her dream job at the DoubleTree by Hilton
Lincoln hotel.
Roanna (21) from Stowmarket in Suffolk, who is graduating with a
2:1 in Business Studies on Monday 5th September, has been appointed
as the hotel's HR Executive.
Working closely with General Manager Philip Walker, Roanna will
be involved in recruitment, staff induction and training and
employee relations.
She will also be responsible for delivering DoubleTree by
Hilton's CARE (Creating a Rewarding Environment) programme aimed at
creating a culture for guests, team members, and the community
founded on the principle that the company goes above and beyond
expected standards.
Roanna first met the team behind the new hotel - which is due to
open on Brayford Wharf North in Lincoln in November - at the
University of Lincoln's Graduate Recruitment Fair.
"I introduced myself at the fair to Richard Farrar, who is one
of the directors at Brayford Hotels, and he encouraged me to send
in my CV," explained Roanna.
"I also completed an application form after which I was invited
in for an interview and was fortunate enough to be offered the
job.
"I've always wanted to work in human resources as I really enjoy
working with people, and I have previous experience in the hotel
and hospitality industry so this is the ideal job for me.
"I'm delighted to have landed my dream job so soon after
finishing university. There will undoubtedly be challenges along
the way, as with any job, but I'm going to work hard and do my best
to repay the company for the fantastic opportunity they have given
me."
Roanna, who was President of the Chartered Management Institute
Student Chapter at the University of Lincoln from 2010 to 2011,
will also be receiving the Lincoln Award when she graduates at
Lincoln Cathedral.
Philip Walker, General Manager at DoubleTree by Hilton in
Lincoln, said: "We're delighted to have Roanna on board. She's
really dynamic and has proved herself to be a high achiever whilst
at university and we have every confidence in her ability.
"We're keen to taken on more graduates, many of whom are
struggling to find work in the current economic climate, and we've
been impressed by the calibre of students coming out of the city's
colleges and universities."
Due to open in November 2011, the DoubleTree by Hilton Lincoln
will be a contemporary and aspirational four-star hotel with 115
well appointed modern and spacious guest rooms with over 750m²
of flexible meeting and events space.
Of the 115 rooms, 17 will be studio suites each with a balcony
and views of the Brayford Pool or the famous Lincoln Cathedral.
The hotel will also boast an on-site gym and a rooftop bar and
restaurant, accessed by a panoramic feature lift on the front of
the hotel, with outside areas offering spectacular views across the
south of the city.
