Leading Black Country law firm George Green LLP have presented
local charity, Black Country Foodbank with a much needed cheque for
£1,100.00.
The Black Country Foodbank which has distribution centres in
Brierley Hill and Stourbridge has received a lot of media coverage
in the few weeks due to a 45% increase in demand for its services
on the same time last year.
The organisation, which was started in 2006, currently has eight
dfistribution centres across the region, but wants to open another
two by the end of the year. The aim of the Foodbank is to give
three days of nutrionally balanced food to people experiencing
emotional or financial crisis. It's running costs total
£2,000 per month.
The Foodbank was chosen as the George Green LLP charity in July
2010 and the Partners and Staff have been fundraising ever since,
through a variety of means including dress down days, sponsored
walks and cake sales. The firm also bought the Foodbank some
magnetic signs for their vans at the start of their fundraising.
Tim Lang, Partner and Head of Employment at George Green LLP
recently took part in the annual Wolverhampton to Aberdovey bike
ride, with the Foodbank being one of the nominated local
charities.
Louise Taylor, Private Client solicitor and Chair of the George
Green charity committee said "I am pleased to be able to present
the Foodbank with this money. They do an amazing job in the local
community, particularly in the current economic climate, with more
and more people needing their help. I would like to thank the
Partners and my colleagues at George Green LLP for getting behind
our fundraising in the last 12 months."
Wendy Fryatt from the Foodbank said "We'd all like to thank all
the staff and partners at George Green LLP for their massive
efforts on our behalf, we'll be able to do so much more with this
money. The need for our service continues to rise, we've noted a
45% increase in people accessing us during the first six months of
2011 compared to the same period last year. Without the support of
local businesses like George Green LLP and the whole community we
could not continue to help those who find themselves in crisis
situations and without the means to feed themselves or their
family."
