The Birmingham office of national law firm Gateley has raised nearly £30,000 for a national charity that helps children and adults with neurological motor disorders. 

The law firm hosted a 5km run and family fun day in aid of The Foundation for Conductive Education. The money raised will secure the charity's parent and child service for at least six months. 

The parent and child service helps children from birth to three years old with neurological motor disorders to develop motor, social and cognitive skills; the charity is used by families from all over the Midlands, with some families travelling from across the UK to use the vital service. 

A total of 100 teams registered paying an entry fee of £250 to take part in the challenge. Over 450 adult runners completed the fun run with over 70 children taking part in the junior run. Entertainment was provided by Midlands band Hot Property, personal trainer Karl Johnson helped warm up the runners and radio presenter Jimmy Franks compered the event, which was also attended by David Wood, chief executive of the charity. There were also a range of fun-packed activities on offer, including face painting, bouncy castles and a balloon release to celebrate the start of the biggest ever fund raising event for the charity.

Victoria Garrad, employment partner in Gateley's Birmingham office, spearheaded the firm's fundraising efforts. She said: "The Foundation for Conductive Education was chosen by our staff to be our nominated local charity for this year. It is a charity that is close to our hearts and we are carrying out a number of events throughout the year, with this being our main fundraiser.    

"We are delighted that so many local businesses and professionals took part in the day. Our aim was to make this a fun, family day out and, with the help of so many people, we have achieved that. More importantly, we have been able to raise a significant sum for a very worthy cause."
