Two intrepid fundraisers from Customer Research Technology (CRT)
are to climb one of the world's most well known mountains in a bid
to raise vitally needed money for cancer sufferers.
Simon Rowland and Simon Dean, chief executive officer and
technical director respectively of the Coventry-based business, are
setting off on their trek on 14 September, and are hoping to
conquer the Pointe Percée Mountain - which is almost 9,000
feet tall - in less than 14 hours.
The mountain is the largest in the Aravis range in Haute-Savoie
in eastern France, and is classified as an "ultra prominent peak".
It is part of the French Prealps.
"We are really looking forward to the challenge," said Simon
Rowland. "It might not be on the same scale as Mount Everest, but
it's still a formidable climb.
"I've been looking to raise funds for Cancer Research UK for a
considerable time. I have wanted to help an organisation that, in
the past, has provided invaluable support to very close
relatives.
"Simon has chosen to come along with me on the adventure, and,
as we both like walking and climbing, the opportunity to tackle
Pointe Percée was simply too good to turn down.
"Some of the climb is quite daunting - the rock is literally a
vertical sheet. That's when it pays not to look down!"
In an attempt to prepare themselves for the rigours of the
challenge, the pair did a "trial run" in August when they climbed
the Tryfan Mountain in Snowdonia.
"Neither of us have done anything like this before," added Simon
Dean. "The highest mountain I have ever climbed is Tryfan - so
Pointe Percée is in a league of its own.
"Understandably, we're a little bit nervous. But we're also
really looking forward to giving the climb our very best shot."
The two Simons' would be grateful to receive financial donations
from well-wishers. Anyone wishing to help their fundraising efforts
