DanceXchange (dx) is getting ready for a season of special
performances to celebrate ten successful years based at the
Birmingham Hippodrome complex.
Originally established in 1993, the move in 2001 saw dx,
together with Birmingham Hippodrome and Birmingham Royal Ballet
become the largest dance partnership in Britain. Ten years later
the partnership is still going strong, providing some of the best
dance facilities in Britain today including what was at the time,
the first dedicated dance space outside London, The Patrick
Centre.
Over the last decade dx has continued to evolve and in addition
to hosting hundreds of performances has also supported the
production of over 50 major touring works by artists including
Akram Khan, Jasmin Vardimon and Rafael Bonachela, solidifying its
growing reputation as a producing house.
dx is renowned for bringing outstanding artists from across the
world to Birmingham, and to celebrate ten successful years is
presenting a special anniversary season of performances. The season
will feature work by companies that have performed and created work
at dx during the last decade including Hofesh Shechter Company,
Rosie Kay Dance Company and 2Faced Dance Company. In addition, some
of the best new names in dance including Frauke Requardt and TAO
Dance Theatre will be performing at The Patrick Centre this Autumn.
The season will also feature a special performance by Bare Bones;
dx's touring contemporary dance company. Bare Bones: The Decade is
a mix of iconic solos and duets from previous Bare Bones
productions and features work from some of the UK's most renowned
choreographers including Jasmin Vardimon, Charlotte Vincent and
Luca Silvestrini.
David Massingham, Artistic Director of DanceXchange (dx),
comments: "2011 is a significant year for DanceXchange as it marks
ten very successful years housed in the Birmingham Hippodrome
complex. Our outstanding facilities have helped drive a decade of
producing some of the world's most successful dance works and
allowed us to engage with communities through innovative
educational projects. I'm proud to see how much the organisation
has thrived and believe the quality of artists taking part in our
special anniversary season reflect our character wonderfully. I'm
looking forward to seeing where the next ten years take
us."
The anniversary season kicks-off on 22nd September with a
performance by Hofesh Shechter Company.
