West Midland business leaders have welcomed the news that Jaguar
Land Rover is to open a new engine plant as a triumph for jobs and
the regional economy.
Jerry Blackett, chief executive of Birmingham Chamber of
Commerce Group, said: "It is a huge boost for the region's economy.
As well as 750 jobs being created, the factory on the border of
Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire near the M54 will attract
business for many suppliers from the West Midlands and
beyond.
"This is tremendous news on top of the growing success of the
Jaguar and Land Rover brands, securing jobs in the heart of the
region."
The new engine plant will source future models which the company
is building, including the C-X16 concept launched at the Frankfurt
Motor Show.
Mr. Blackett added: "It is exactly this sort of business growth
from the private sector which will help boost the economy."
