An award-winning Birmingham grocer is expanding in Edgbaston
with the opening of a new store.
Simon Dunmore is set to launch The Deli at Edgbaston at 21
Highfield Road in late September - and the accountants who advised
him on the deal won't have to go too far to get a good
lunch!
Chantrey Vellacott DFK moved to its new offices at 35 Calthorpe
Road following a £1 million refurbishment in June.
And just two months on, Dunmore is building on the success of
The Grocer at Edgbaston store at Templefield Square, with the
opening of the 1,400 sq ft outlet next door to the accountancy
firm.
Dunmore said: "When Chantrey Vellacott decided to move onto
Calthorpe Road it drew my attention to this building next door and,
having discussed our plans for the deli with Suk Aulak at the firm,
we both came up with the idea to try to open up here at the same
time.
"We've got a two-tier plan for the new store and the concept is
unique for the area as I don't think there's anything like this in
Edgbaston.
"The first stage will see us concentrating on the upmarket
sandwiches and salads market using quality ingredients sourced
locally, so very much building on what we have achieved at The
Grocer over the last six years.
"Production of the sandwiches and salads will be switching from
the store at Templefield Square and we'll also be building on the
catering service we offer to businesses across Edgbaston.
"The second stage will then be the opening of a restaurant on
the site, which will probably happen in late November.
"There's a big buzz about the opening and we can't wait to
complete the fit out and get going."
Suk, head of office at Chantrey Vellacott DFK in Birmingham,
said the strong reputation of The Grocer - runner-up in the
Guardian's Independent Retailer of the Year 2011 Awards - will
serve the new venture well.
"The success of The Grocer has been built on the foundations of
selling top- quality food produced locally and The Deli at
Edgbaston will build on this and I've got no doubt it will prove to
be just as popular," he said.
"Simon has been looking to expand the business for some time and
we're pleased to be supporting him with financial planning and
advice.
"We're looking forward to the opening in late September -
especially as we won't have to go far at all to get a good
lunch!"
