Significant investment from whg will see the roof of a near
50-year-old block of flats in Walsall replaced.
Scaffolding has been put up around the three storey block in
Penkridge Close, Birchills, and the work is being carried out this
month.
The new roof will improve the insulation of the block and could
help drive down customer fuel bills. The exterior of the block will
also benefit from partial thermal insulation.
Work is being carried out by whg construction partner Wates and
will cost around £60,000. It is part of a rolling
programme to replace the roofs of whg's blocks of flats over the
coming years.
In 2004 whg replaced the windows in the block, which welcomed
its first customers in 1964.
Nigel Harris, Asset Management Delivery Manager, said: "We've
consulted customers living in the block so they are aware of what
we are doing and why and now it's a case of carrying out the work
in a thorough and considerate fashion. The improvements we are
making will have several benefits for residents."
