Midlands recruitment company TRS Personnel gave a charity runner
a boost when he embarked on his latest effort to run up a
Shropshire landmark every week for a year.
Tim Stevens wasn't really hoping for a lift in a lorry up the
Wrekin when he embarked on his latest run. Despite the advertising
boards for HGV drivers he carried all the way to the top of the
Wrekin, Tim was raising cash for Barnardos as part of his mammoth
bid to run up the hill every week during 2011.
Award-winning TRS Personnel, a recruitment specialist with
offices in Telford and Shrewsbury, sponsored 44-year-old Tim to
carry the boards on his latest run as part of its commitment to
supporting charities and the community in the region.
Jeff Lawrence, director of TRS Personnel, said: "To commit to
running up the Wrekin 52 times is a tremendous feat, and we wanted
to show Tim our support.
"We have donated more than the average worker's annual salary to
charities in the last year and this was a brilliant chance to hand
over some cash to a good cause while raising awareness that we have
vacancies for HGV drivers at the same time. We're the largest
supplier of agency drivers in the region and we need even more
experienced HGV drivers to fill order books into 2012 on day, night
and weekend contracts."
"We thought it was quite funny that a runner was advertising for
drivers - maybe someone thought he just wanted a lift! But joking
aside, Barnardos is a fantastic cause and especially with Tim's
personal connection to the charity, we were delighted to help
out."
TRS Personnel recently scooped the Business in the Community
Award at the 2011 Shropshire Business Awards.
Tim, who lives in Little Wenlock, said he had been touched by
the support for businesses which were sponsoring his weekly
runs.
"I said I would push, pull or carry anything which represents
the business sponsoring me for a minimum donation of £25,
which could raise £1,300 in the year. But by week 19, we had
already raised £1,200 for Barnardos which is fantastic."
"My mother was raised in a Barnardos home until she was five
years old. Unfortunately she passed away when she was quite young.
Barnardos work directly with over 100,000 children, young people
and their families every year including counselling for children
who have been abused, fostering and adoption services, vocational
training and disability inclusion groups.
"I want to express my sincere thanks to TRS Personnel for its
support and know that the donation will help give a child a
chance."
Tim is hoping to put together a charity calendar at the end of
the year showing all the businesses which have support his efforts.
