James Hemming, Hotel Manager of Sherwood Forest based Clumber
Park Hotel and Spa, is limbering up for the biggest challenge of
this life after just announcing his plans to join an expedition to
Everest Base Camp.
Often referred to as the "granddaddy of all treks", the 18 day
expedition will kick off on October 3rd and help raise money for
The National Autistic Society, amongst other charities.
"Since running the London Marathon a few years ago, I've been
looking for another challenging way to raise money for charity,"
explains James.
"When I learned of the trek to Everest Base Camp a few weeks
ago, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to raise some money for
The National Autistic Society - it's the ultimate test of endurance
and one which I hope, will help a charity very close to my heart,
as my son was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome earlier this
year."
Starting with a terrifying flight from Kathmandu to the town of
Lukla in the foothills of the Nepalese Himalaya, James accompanied
by a team of 8, will undertake two weeks of arduous walking to
reach the foot of Everest and also climb up to the peak of Kallar
Pattar - 5,550 metres high!
And if that wasn't bad enough, they'll also be doing stunts and
accepting challenges along the way, to generate further donations
to their chosen charities.
Organised by Leeds based The Global Promise Foundation, a 'not
for profit' organisation supporting engagement between businesses
and local communities to make a positive change, it's sure to be a
difficult challenge but an extremely worthwhile one.
"Trekking to Everest Base Camp is probably one of the hardest
things I'll ever have to do but I'm determined to succeed, as it's
an amazing opportunity to support some very deserving charities,"
James continues.
"I started cycling to work at the start of the year to get fit
but something tells me I'm going to be looking at a training
programme a little bit more strenuous than that, if I'm to conquer
Everest Base Camp!"
