A long-established seafood supplier has been forced to cease
trading after becoming a victim of the tough economic climate.
Superior Seafoods, in Marsden Road, Grimsby, is to close with
the loss of around 65 jobs due to the increasing costs of factory
overheads and fish stocks.
Poppleton & Appleby, which has offices in Birmingham and
Coventry, has been appointed as administrator of the firm which was
established in 1972.
Matt Hardy, partner at Poppleton & Appleby, said: "Superior
Seafoods has become a victim of rising costs and combined with the
tough economic climate it is, unfortunately, no longer a
sustainable business.
"We are now working with the directors to fully assess the
situation and are looking to progress things as quickly and
efficiently as possible.
"We are working closely with the local Jobcentre Plus to place
as many of Superior Seafoods' staff in other roles as possible and
a number of local employers in the area have expressed an interest
in taking on some of those who have lost their jobs."
