The Square Shopping Centre, Birmingham is set to take on a
Camden Town vibe on Saturday, August 13 with the arrival of the
inaugural K-Boot urban vintage village.
Music from up-and-coming indie talent, an urban vintage market
and all day entertainment are set to create a festival feel at the
top of Corporation Street.
The event will be packed with more than 40 independent
retailers, stocking everything from vintage to vinyl, to beads to
burlesque. It promises to be a real treat for anyone into retro
chic, or just longing to be alternative.
Complementing the visiting stall holders with everything kitsch
will be some of Birmingham's most iconic independent retailers.
Music on the day will be from some fantastic unsigned bands,
including alternative rockers, Broken Links and powerful Midlands
four-piece Captain Horizon. The bands promise explosive sets,
bursting with passion and energy, claiming they were born to
entertain.
As a bonus on the day, the Birmingham Ball Room (previously the
Carling Academy) will be throwing open its doors to anyone who
brings along and donates a piece of trivia from the venue's
history, which will be included on a wall of fame after the
refurbishment. It will be a great opportunity to get a sneak peak
at the venue before it reopens in late September.
The event is raising money for KERRANG'S nominated charity Cash
4 Kids, with all the proceeds from stall rental being donated to
charity.
The Square's centre manager, Yvonne Moulton said music and
events at The Square were already proving incredibly popular,
having had a magnificent turn-out to previous initiatives this
year.
She said: "We're committed to the local community, and are
delighted to offer opportunities for emerging bands or creative
individuals in a city centre location."
"With the new openings of the Hairy Lemon and The Birmingham
Ball Room, and our existing relationship with Scruffy Murphy's and
The Oasis, we proud to support local talent, and to help showcase
Birmingham to the world.
"K-Boot is the perfect chance to show off what we can offer. We
can't wait."
