Award winning hotel and restaurant The Maynard in Grindleford is
hoping people will choose to be 'Away in The Maynard' again this
year as the venue launches its 2011 Christmas packages.
The most popular events from 2010 are back this year by popular
demand. These include two new festive dinner menus, an all new
Christmas Day Dinner and the return of the hugely popular
Hathersage Brass Band for evening concerts and pie and pea suppers
throughout the festive season.
It will be a case of 'Come All Ye Famished' throughout December,
as the all new festive three course dinners will be available from
just £24. Diners can choose from the traditional festive
feast or for £26, why not be daring and try pan seared Silver
Bream and Clementine Crème Brulee?
It will be 'Ding Dong Merrily On Pie' as the Hathersage Brass
Band will once again be playing traditional carols at three
exclusive pie and pea supper evenings on Monday 5, 12 and 19
December. These evenings have become legendary among regulars and
this year looks set to be no exception. Tickets always sell out
fast and at £16 include a pie and pea supper, rounded off
with coffee and mince pies and the warm sound of the best brass
band in the Peaks.
The Christmas climax has to be the glorious Christmas Day Dinner
- and it will be 'God Rest Ye Maynard Gentlemen' for those who
manage to do justice to three scrumptious courses! From 'Bubbles
and Canapés' on arrival, guests can choose from five
starters including Tiger Prawns and Confit Pheasant and five mains
- from Turkey with all the trimmings, to Beef and pan fried
Halibut.
Desserts include Dark Chocolate Trifle, Caramelised Fig Bavarois
and what Christmas banquet would be complete without the option of
Christmas Pudding! After a well earned rest, the repast completes
with coffee and home made Petit Fours.
"Our pie and pea suppers really are great festive events," said
The Maynard director Jane Hitchman. "It's a really intimate village
event and a good night is always had by all. Hathersage Brass Band
provides that perfect Christmas atmosphere that puts everyone in
the seasonal mood. Our Christmas Day Dinner is always a highlight
and is a great way to give mum (or dad!) a day off from cooking
Christmas Day and lets everyone enjoy the most wonderful time of
the year together."
Like The Maynard itself, Hathersage Brass Band has its roots in
the Victorian period, tracing its origins back to 1882. The band is
unique in the sense it has been continually active since it was
formed and it continues to delight audiences in the region. The
concerts at The Maynard have become a signature event on the local
calendar - wonderful music and a great British tradition.
Christmas at The Maynard makes for the quintessentially seasonal
experience. Its rural location is like stepping into a scene from a
Christmas card and with the hotel trimmed up for the season,
Christmas dinner and the brass band nights are like stepping back
in time to a festive world of old.
The Maynard's Victorian building is the perfect setting for a
traditional Christmas with all the trimmings and whatever the
weather, guests are assured of a warm welcome. The brass band
nights, the Christmas dinner and Christmas Day are all now
available to book and at just £80 per person for Christmas
Day (children £40), eating out this Christmas at one of the
few restaurants in South Yorkshire and north Derbyshire with two AA
rosettes has never been so affordable.
