National law firm Weightmans LLP has appointed Birmingham-based construction lawyer Ian Yule to head up its Construction and Engineering offering in the Midlands.

Ian, who will work out of the firm's Birmingham office, has over 20 years' experience in construction law and is noted in the Legal 500 directory as being a 'very accomplished advocate'. He has held the position of partner at three top law firms including Wragge & Co, where he was partner for almost ten years.

Ian qualified in 1984 and has acted for contractors and local authorities on a mixture of contentious and non-contentious issues. He has advised organisations in the health, education, and transport sectors on issues such as framework agreements and recently advised a main contractor on various process plant and waste to energy projects.

Ian's expertise also extends to adjudications, arbitrations and multi-party cases at the High Court. Four years working in-house within local government has added another dimension to his substantial portfolio.

At Weightmans, Ian will continue to specialise in these areas. His clients will include contractors, local authorities, developers and specialist subcontractors and suppliers.

Charles Tomlinson, partner and head of the firm's Construction and Engineering practice area said:

"I am delighted to welcome Ian on board. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and local contacts, and I am confident that he will boost our profile for construction work in the region significantly. I look forward to working with him."

On his decision to join Weightmans, Ian commented:

"Weightmans has a great reputation for providing quality advice across its three business lines of insurance, public sector work and commercial law.

"The prospect of building the firm's construction presence in the Midlands is an exciting one - I look forward to developing the practice area in a region I know so well."

Ian is very active within the industry and takes part in a number of lectures and client workshops for organisations such as the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He plays an active part in the regional activities of the Society of Construction Law and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
