The University of Northampton has been helping a coffee company
get mobile and connected - designing and developing a bespoke
iPhone app.
A team from the University's Computing Department, within the
School of Science and Technology, has been working with Xpress
Coffee, an online coffee retailer based near Milton Keynes.
The app they have designed - called XpressoEngineerFinder - has
been developed to help customers find their closest Expresso
Service Engineer, using the iPhone GPS. The iPhone also acts as a
gateway to the company's website.
Gary Hill, Head of the Computing Division, School of Science and
Technology, at the University, explained:
"The University has been running a BSc Mobile Computing course
for three years and a number of staff have had an interest in
developing mobile device applications for the Windows Mobile,
Android and iPhone platforms for even longer. This expertise
enables the Computing department and our students to develop
applications for external companies as consultancy, strategic
partnerships or student projects."
This is the second iPhone App developed by the University for
the region's business community. The first was for Northamptonshire
County Council, with Gary and his team designing an iPhone app
which enables users to access Council information at the click of
an icon. The app has already had over 2,000 downloads and the
Android version will follow soon.
