Ever fancied a cell for the night - so you can experience what it is like to be a prisoner without the years in jail which normally go with it?

Now you can have a complete police station.

A redundant police station at 15 Mount Pleasant, Bilston, goes under the hammer at Bigwood's latest auction being held at 11.00am on Thursday, July 21, at Aston Villa Football Club in Birmingham.

It is being sold by West Midlands Police and has a guide price of £150,000.

It is described as "an attractive, spacious, detached three storey period Listed building". The property is largely store rooms and offices on three storeys, but includes former cells in the basement and ground floor.

Bigwood director Ian Tudor said it was suitable for a variety of alternatives, including community and education use, subject to planning permission.

He quipped: "It is an attractive building in reasonably good nick!"

Hawthorn House, former Birmingham City Council offices at 58-60 Hamstead Hall Road, Handsworth Wood, is an imposing 19th Century Grade II Listed property with a guide price of £350,000-£400,000. It is in need of upgrading and modernisation.

Beechenhurst, 10 Serpentine Road, Selly Park, a freehold detached property, has a guide price of £400,000-£450,000. It too is 19th Century and is situated in the Selly Park Conservation Area. Latterly used as offices but capable of being turned into an imposing residence, it comes complete with old stables.

Maybrook House, Queensway, Halesowen

The auction takes in a host of more recent buildings now made out of date by advances in rules and regulations.

The 12-bedroom 8 Stuarts Road, Stechford, is a former children's home built in the 1960s. It has a guide price of £225,000-£250,000. A cleared site at 31 Bromford Road, Hodge Hill, guide price £400,000, was once an elderly persons home but that has been demolished. It is thought suitable for residential. Lyttleton House, 1 Ormond Road, Rubery, is a 37-bedroom former care home with a guide price of £325,000. A one-time 12-bed hotel at 127 Portland Road, Edgbaston, has a guide price of £380,000-£400,000.

And a Grade II Listed period office building at 360 Moseley Road, Highgate, could also be suitable for conversion. The guide price is £230,000.

Meanwhile, interesting investment opportunities are Maybrook House, Queensway, Halesowen, and One Stop, Elmore Lane, Rugeley.

The 36,863 sq.ft. (3,424.65 sq.m.) five storey Maybrook House has a current rental income of £172,310 pa and an estimated full rental value of £221,178. The guide price is £700,000. The Elmore Lane property, occupied by a One Stop store, now part of the Tesco empire, has a current gross income of £28,000 a year. The guide price is £350,000 which, Mr Tudor, said was "very competitive".

Bigwood is merging with Birmingham chartered surveyors Curry & Partners on September 1 to create CP Bigwood, the largest independent agency in the Midlands, with more than £2.5 billion of property under management.
