Pick Everard has completed project management of site
construction enabling works for the expansion of Tremough Campus,
in Penryn, near Falmouth, in Cornwall.
Appointed earlier this year under the Buying Solutions Project
Management and Full Design Team Services framework agreement, the
multi-disciplinary consultancy has been leading the six-month
£1.5m enabling works project which includes drainage, car
parking, footpaths, a bus interchange, landscaping and the
construction of a new electricity sub-station. The recent
completion of an archaeological dig following the discovery of two
Iron-Age roundhouses has also resulted in a repeat contract for
Pick Everard for another car park on the site.
Tremough Campus is a hub for the Combined Universities in
Cornwall project, which is heading economic regeneration in the
county with £105m of European and other funding invested.
With 4,000 students currently enrolled, development is expected to
help attract a further 1,000 students by 2016. A joint venture
between the University of Exeter and University College Falmouth,
the Tremough Campus project will provide three spectacular new
buildings: the Academy for Innovation and Research, the Environment
and Sustainability Institute and The Exchange, a collaborative
learning and social space, designed to achieve a BREEAM Excellent
rating and scheduled to open in August 2012.
A Pick Everard team of project managers, mechanical and
electrical, civil and structural engineers was led by Partner Rod
Burton. The team was selected for its broad, multi-disciplinary
expertise in tackling a scenic, although difficult, sloping site.
Partner Rod Burton comments, "Tremough Campus is an attractive site
and alongside infrastructure works, we have planted native hedges
creating a shelter belt to make the most of the natural landscape.
This is a challenging infrastructure project which is pivotal to
Cornwall's regeneration and we are delighted to have been
involved."
