A donation from workers at a local 'back to work' specialist
will ensure Redditch based charity Hopper Haven can continue to
provide a much needed sanctuary for Rabbits and Guinea pigs.
According to the RSPCA, rabbits are the most neglected animals
in the UK and many guinea pigs go from gorgeous little creatures to
unwanted pets.
Christine Greenhill is a Skills for Life tutor at Pertemps
People Developments Groups (PPDGs) Albert Street office in Redditch
and nominated the Crabbs Cross charity for a donation from the
companies Give As You Earn scheme.
"I love animals and I used to volunteer for a rabbit rescue
charity back home in Essex," said Christine who presented Hopper
Haven with a cheque for £200.
"When I moved to the West Midlands, I decided to look for local
charities that also want to provide a better life for rabbits and
guinea pigs and I found Hopper Haven.
"Some of these animals have been badly mistreated and deserve a
happier life, others just need care and attention."
Hopper Haven is operated by volunteers and the donation will
help feed the 105 rabbits and 70 guinea pigs currently residing at
Crabbs Cross over the next few months.
One of the volunteers Louise Deveney said: "We really appreciate
the donation and it will be put to good use providing safe and
roomy accommodation with an appropriate healthy diet."
PPDG's programme of community support has already resulted in
payroll giving donations of over £150,000 supporting 325
different charities and worthy causes since its inception six years
ago.
