The Highways and Special Projects division of civil engineering
and building specialists North Midland Construction plc (NMC), has
been awarded two contracts worth almost £½ million for
Lincolnshire County Council to undertake essential work on two
bridges.
A deck replacement contract for Fox Covert Bridge in Saxilby,
near Lincoln, will enable the removal of a weight restriction. The
works involve demolishing the existing reinforced concrete deck and
part of the abutments and central pier, and the installation of a
new reinforced concrete deck and structural steel beams. Starting
on August the work will be completed by December.
Stickford Bridge is another deck replacement contract to remove
another weight restriction with the replacement of the existing
bridge deck with pre-cast concrete beams and the installation of a
reinforced concrete deck. Work will start in early July and take 12
weeks to complete.
Geoff Poyzer, executive director of Special Projects at NMC
said; "We're very pleased to have been awarded these contracts. The
essential works will strengthen the bridges to cater for all
traffic.
Our team has vast experience of working on bridge projects with
recent work on Wilford footbridge in Nottingham winning the
Institution of Civil Engineers award."
