A building that had lain largely empty in the centre of
Bridgnorth for many years has now been given a new lease of life by
an expanding local business.
The Old Police Station in Whitburn Street was acquired by
principals of chartered accountants Stanton Ralph & Co, and has
been converted into new offices for the practice, transforming a
redundant site into a modern and resourceful building.
Bridgnorth architect Vic Johnson of the Johnson Design
Partnership came up with radical designs for the building to create
an extremely eco-friendly and efficient working environment.
Three Pines Builders of Wolverhampton carried out he conversion
and extension work, and Midland Computers of Telford designed and
installed the latest IT facilities.
Philip Wood, principal of Stanton Ralph & Co said: "We are
absolutely delighted to be moving into our new bespoke premises at
the start of August, right on schedule.
"The transformation of the building is every bit as good as we
originally envisaged and our thanks go to the architects and
builders for their efforts on the project.
"The Old Police Station is now one of the best office facilities
in Bridgnorth and will enable us to continue serving our clients
from a modern, functional location, within the town centre, which
has its own parking."
Architect Vic Johnson commented: "The idea was to turn it from a
place of incarceration into a place of natural ventilation! This
was managed by creating a design that avoids using any form of air
conditioning, relying purely on a stack effect natural airflow
system.
"A rundown courtyard has been transformed into the focal point
with a central entrance area and atrium, bringing space and natural
daylight into the core of the building.
"We are extremely proud to have been involved in this creative
and green project, completing both on budget and to the exacting
standards set by Stanton Ralph."
Alan Bradshaw, managing director of Three Pines added: "We were
very pleased to undertake this outstanding conversion scheme which
has produced a truly modern and very eco-friendly building, while
at the same time remaining sympathetic to the surrounding
area."
