The Stourbridge-based Western region of Mansell has been playing
host to three long-term unemployed youngsters in a 12 week paid
work experience programme.
The three, all from Birmingham, joined Mansell as part of a
programme with Birmingham City Council's Enterprising Communities
Regeneration Team aimed at offering training or work opportunities
for local people. The programme was funded through the Hall Green
Working Neighbourhoods Fund constituency development programme.
Following community events and interviews Mansell took on 21
year-old Stephanie Adams and Ashley-James Downing and 20 year-old
Devlon Bramble. A two week induction programme was organised for
them at Bournville College and then each of them spent four weeks
at three different Mansell sites.
They have been undertaking a technical trainee programme in site
management, and are being mentored by Mansell's site management
teams.
Mansell regional managing director Steve Davies said the
youngsters were encouraged to keep an activity diary of their time
with Mansell alongside their own training and development plan.
"The aim of the programme is to provide local unemployed
youngsters with work experience, introducing them to the work
routine and providing them with experience in the construction
industry which I hope will prove valuable to them in the future,"
he said.
Birmingham City Council Enterprising Communities employment,
enterprise and skills manager Kate King said, "Our partnership of
working with Mansell to enable local unemployed youngsters gain
work experience has been a success, and we look forward to working
together again in future."
