Motorists and shoppers in and around Birmingham on Friday (July
1) could have been forgiven for doing a double take when they saw
who was coming down the street.
However, their eyes were not deceiving them - it really was
Batman, Robin, Batgirl, Super Woman, Spidergirl and the Joker. For
one day only, the caped crusaders and the Joker put their
differences aside and joined forces for a very special mission - to
raise as much money as possible for an extremely worthy cause.
Underneath the masks and capes, of course, were the intrepid
team from Sutton Coldfield-based professional marketing company JE
Consulting, who were taking part in the UK200Group's "Not the
Olympics 2012" charity campaign in aid of Alzheimer's Society.
Participating member firms have been tasked with relaying an
Olympic-style torch across the country, finishing at the Olympic
Stadium in London in time for the Group's annual conference in
November.
Having received the torch from Dains Chartered Accountants, the
JE Consulting team donned their superhero outfits and took to the
streets, walking 10 miles from Sutton Coldfield to Edgbaston, where
they handed over the torch to the next participating firm, JW
Hinks.
Director of JE Consulting, Paul Edwards, said: "It was a
fantastic day for Batman and his sidekicks. We luckily enjoyed
excellent weather for the walk, and perhaps unsurprisingly, we
attracted a fair bit of attention from passing motorists and
pedestrians!
"We are proud to be part of the event that is in aid of such a
worthy cause. I want to thank the members of staff who took part,
who were brave enough to don their superhero outfits through the
streets of Birmingham.
"Alzheimer's affects around 465,000 people in the UK, so we are
grateful for all the support we have received so far from clients
and colleagues. The money is still coming in - the overall target
for Not the Olympics 2012 is to raise £50,000 for Alzheimer's
Society, and the team at JE Consulting have raised a substantial
amount of money to help reach this target for the very worthy
cause."
