The second Royal wedding of the year - when daughter of The
Princess Royal, Zara Phillips marries rugby player Mike Tindall,
this weekend - is being celebrated in style by proud UK pottery
manufacturer Emma Bridgewater.
The company's co-owners Emma Bridgewater and Matthew Rice have
designed a beautiful spongeware pattern on their classic half-pint
mug to commemorate the wedding which will take place at Canongate
Kirk on Edinburgh's Royal Mile, this Saturday (July 30th).
Emma and Matthew, who also designed a highly successful series
of William and Kate commemorative ware, took to the drawing board
as soon as the date was announced. They created a hand-sponged
pattern subtle blues to complement the Scottish flag and decorated
it with athletic horses and rugby balls reflecting the couple's
sporting achievements. Of course the design also features
their two names as well as the wedding dates
Matthew Rice said: "This is a light hearted design that I hope
reflects the couple's remarkable sporting achievements
"Our designs for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's wedding
were very different - more intricate and more specifically Royal in
character but these are more a jolly celebration of the couple.
"The popularity of the Zara and Mike mugs has exceeded our
expectations. Unsurprisingly, in this Vintage Royal year our
customers want to celebrate this very popular wedding ."
A total of 450 Mike and Zara mugs have already been sold, with a
further 100 currently in production at the factory in
Stoke-on-Trent.
