With just one year to go to the start of the London Olympics and
Paralympics, local companies are being invited to find out how to
win in the world of sport at a special free event being held at
Loughborough University on Wednesday, 27 July from 9.30am to
3.30pm.
The event, organised by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), and
featuring a keynote speech from Lord Green, Minister of State for
Trade and Investment, will give companies the chance to find out
about the opportunities which exist around major sporting events -
from construction to transport and from ticketing to training.
There will also be the opportunity to network with other
companies, the chance to hear from businesses that have won high
value sporting contracts and workshops around opportunities in
Brazil, Russia and Japan.
Brazil will host the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics as well as
the 2012 FIFA World Cup. Russia will host the 2014 Winter Olympics
and Paralympics and the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Delegates will also have the chance to find out more about what
help Japan needs as it recovers from the March earthquake and
tsunami.
Peter Hogarth, International Trade Director at UKTI East
Midlands, said:
"Opportunities for businesses don't start and finish with the
2012 London Olympics and Paralympics. Our success in delivering for
London places the UK in a strong position to capitalise on future
high value sporting developments overseas. This free, high profile
event will give local firms the chance to find out about the
international sporting opportunities available. Exporting has
enabled a great many companies across the East Midlands to grow and
survive during an economic downturn and this event gives companies
the chance to find out more".
