The drpgroup have hosted Oxfam at their Worcester head office,
delivering a team engagement day for the global charity. The Oxfam
team, dedicated to fighting poverty and suffering across the world,
enjoyed a day of interactive sessions and team building exercises
delivered by the group's futureteams division. Taking place on
Wednesday the 13th July, the Oxfam communications team enjoyed a
programme centred on a major change process at the level of the
global Oxfam confederation, which will have impact on ways of
working for the Oxfam GB communications teams. The teams needed to
understand the scope and scale of the change, discuss implications
and reflect on behaviour and mindsets that may need to adapt. This
included a reflection on external trends in media and
communications that influence the work of an internationally active
agency.
The Delegates, normally based in Oxford, arrived at the
drpgroup's facilities and were greeted with refreshments before
entering the drpstudio. Here, Oxfam GB's Communications Division
was split into their five departments: Corporate Communications,
Media, PR, Digital Communications and Internal Communications, led
by communications director Thomas Schultz-Jagow. 50 out of 75 staff
attended while the others had to stay behind to deal with the East
Africa food crisis/famine. While in the session they looked at ways
the departments could collaborate more effectively with each other
and their overseas counterparts. This was done through a
brainstorming exercise using the tables they were sitting at as
their white boards.
In the afternoon, delegates took part in the futureteams
activity, Newsday. Delegates created a news programme using the
drpvideo team's facilities and equipment to tell the story of where
they see Oxfam in 12 months time. The idea was to get delegates
thinking about how the changes they suggested in the first session
could really impact their business. Utilising the drpvideo team's
green screen and edit facilities, delegates were able to create a
highly professional finished product to watch with each other and
share with their wider teams.
The day finished with the delegates taking a tour of the
drpgroup production facility, studios and construction warehouses.
Thomas Schultz-Jagow, director of communications at Oxfam GB
commented on the programme, "The team has a better understanding of
what's to come over the course of the next year and had a great
time being creative in depicting the future in the Newsday
exercise. This is an excellent format to engage people in a
challenging and playful, yet very focussed way. The Oxfam team had
great fun and much enjoyed drpgroup's excellent hospitality."
Dale Parmenter, managing director of drpgroup said "it is great
for the team to work with charities like Oxfam in this way because
as communicators, they are possibly the most passionate people you
can find in these types of roles. What's important for us is that
we deliver a team engagement and development solution that fits the
type of organisation we're working with. We believe we achieved
that here."
