Cycle giant moves in

One of the largest bicycle manufacturers in the world has just relocated its UK head office and distribution centre within Milton Keynes.

Work began on building the 82,700 sq ft facility at Tilbrook for Trek Bicycle Corporation Limited at the end of last summer.  The US based company awarded the development contract to Hampton Brook to construct this new distribution hub and agreed to lease the property for a term of 15 years.

Trek opens its UK division in 1989 and has been based in Milton Keynes at Kingston since 1998.  Such has been the growth in popularity of cycling that its business has more than trebled in the last 12 years. There are now more than 20 million bicycles in the UK with Trek selling more than 80,000 a year, plus a wide range of cycling accessories.

Trek Bikes UK Manager Nigel Roberts said: "This figure continues to grow due to our continued development of market-leading products and is further assisted by the general growth in cycling taking place in the UK and globally."

"We have worked with Hampton Brook on the design of the new facility at Tilbrook which incorporates indoor bike parking areas, and full shower and changing facilities as over half of our staff are keen cycling commuters.  Milton Keynes itself is an ideal location for Trek with miles of 'redways', quiet lanes for road riding and local trails nearby for mountain bikes - there is a bit of everything."

Additional facilities of the new headquarters building are a single-storey warehouse with integral ground floor reception, showroom and first floor offices.

Developer Hampton Brook is also behind the award winning Pinnacle, the largest office development in Milton Keynes for over 25 years.  Director Ian Jackson said: "We were delighted that Trek selected us at such as exciting time in its growth to develop its new facility at Tilbrook - which in itself is the largest pre-let deal to have been completed in Milton Keynes for a number of years."

"The building has been completed to the highest standard which is synonymous with our products, achieving a BREEAM Excellent certified and showing best practice in sustainable development."

Trek manufactures a wide range of adult and child cycles suitable for recreational users, commuters and performance road and mountain bike riders, including those seeking to use them on a more professional level. Indeed, the legendary seven times Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong won all his titles riding Trek bikes.
