Loughborough schoolboy Sam Marlow proved to be a dab hand when
it came to designing the Mercedes-Benz of the future in a
competition organised by Mercedes-Benz of Loughborough.
The Chainbridge Close retailer invited local schoolchildren to
draw the Mercedes-Benz of the future to mark its launch of the new
C-Class Coupé and SLK-Class Roadster. Sam, a pupil at
Loughborough Grammar School, won with his radical Mercedes-Benz SLF
design and received an iPod Nano for his efforts.
Sam, 12, impressed Mercedes-Benz of Loughborough with his flying
car's STOVL (Short Take Off and Vertical Landing) technology and
how he kept the legendary and recognised 'SL' model line in its
name but updated it with the letter 'F' that stands for future. The
four-door saloon design uses twin jet engines, has a top speed of
130 knots and is fuelled by kerosene.
Along with the new C-Class Coupé and SLK that were
launched last month, Sam's winning design and the other competition
entries are currently taking pride of place in Mercedes-Benz of
Loughborough's showroom.
Mark Dale, General Manager of Mercedes-Benz of Loughborough, was
delighted with the standard of competition entries.
"There were no rules to how entrants' designs should look or
function, so we had some fantastic ideas that really got us
thinking," said Mark.
"The new C-Class Coupé and SLK incorporate some amazing
technology and it was great to see how Mercedes-Benz could take
this to a whole new level in the eyes of our local children. All
the entries were excellent but Sam's stood out as it demonstrated a
very impressive imagination and technical ability."
