Sofia Tayton and Emma Vaqueiro, specialists in care of the
elderly at Lodders Solicitors in Stratford-upon-Avon, welcomed the
Dilnot Report.
But they expressed major concerns over how quickly, if at all,
reform was likely to happen.
"Money worries can blight the twilight years of so many just
when they should be enjoying their retirement." Mrs Tayton
said.
"It has been estimated that currently 20,000 homes a year have
to be sold to meet care fees.
"All too often the nest egg for the children is lost.
"Anything that makes the current system fairer and easier to
navigate is to be welcomed, but there remain serious issues about
the funding of any changes as the Treasury will need to find
billions to pump into the system.
Mrs Vaqueiro noted that time is also an issue."There is also
likely to be a wait of several years before any suggested changes
make it into force - and that is if the Government decides to act
on the recommendations at all," she said.
"So, while Dilnot has made some very helpful proposals, there is
a long way to go yet."
