One of Bigwood's busiest ever property auctions saw 80 per cent
of the lots sold and the day's total set to top £10 million
with post-auction deals.
£9.6 million worth of property sold on the day at Aston
Villa FC with Lot 1 - Hawthorn House selling for £775,000
against a guide price of £350,000-£400,000.
The imposing 19th century Grade II listed building, put up for
sale by Birmingham City Council, has latterly been used as offices
but was originally residential.
It has been bought by Harkamal Sandhu, his wife Kiranjit, his
father Jaswant Sandhu and his father-in-law Guljinderpal Singh
Kandola as their own residence.
Other highlights included the Lordship of Beriscote whick was
purchased at a Bigwood auction for £10,000 in 2007. It sold
for £12,000 to an anonymous purchaser.
Similarly, Bilston Police Station which had a guide price of
£150,000 was sold for £176,000 to an anonymous
Wolverhampton investor.
Notable lots in a busy sale included 8 Stuarts Road, Stetchford,
a former 12 bedroom children's home which sold for £270,000
against a guide price of £220,000.
A vacant leasehold end terraced property at 96, Bottetort Road,
Weoley Castle, Brmingham, with a guide price of £25,000
attracted 53 viewings and sold for £66,000.
Fierce bidding greeted Beechenhurst, 10 Serpentine Road, Selly
Park, Birmingham, a substantial vacant freehold property which sold
for £670,000 from a guide price of £400,000.
Ten of 11 ground rents sold - proving their continuing
popularity - and six terraced houses in a row sold individually to
the same purchaser for a total of £306,000 from a guide
price of £228,000.
A freehold mid-terraced property at 36 Somerset Road, Erdington,
Birmingham, sold for £102,000 off a guide price of
£70,000.
The vacant freehold semi-detached house at 202 Bournvilla Lane,
Bournville, Birmingham, sold for £230,000, from a guide price
of £170,000.
Another property which attraced 53 viewings was 495 Belchers
Lane, Bordesley Green, Birmingham, a three bedroom end terraced
freehold property which eventually sold for £166,000 having
been given a guide price of £115,000.
Bigwood managing director Rory Daly said: "Bidding on the most
keenly contested lots was frantic and there was a real buzz in the
saleroom.

and we had another packed auction room and a tremendous result all
round."
