A fledgling Solihull business has teamed up with a West Midland
branch of one of the country's best-known health clubs to help its
members detect potential serious health conditions and change their
lifestyles.
Kiran Sidhu, a former NHS nurse, and the driving force behind
Healthy Tomato, has hailed the alliance with Bannatyne's, which
will feature health screening sessions offered for the club's
Sutton Coldfield members.
Ms Sidhu, a former advisor to Ofsted and Departments of Work and
Pensions, who set up the Blythe Valley based well-being business
last year after leaving the NHS, said: "As a company set up in the
recession I hope this breakthrough shows proof that with a sound
concept, belief and determination there is a lot to be optimistic
about."
Ms Sidhu's Blythe Valley based company, is providing a seven
point risk assessment for the health club, which is part of a UK
wide chain of 59 owned by the well-known entrepreneur and TV star
of Dragons Den Duncan Bannatyne. The hour-long screening programme,
which are also available to non-members, will assess personal risks
of serious conditions such as heart attack, stroke, high blood
pressure, and type 2 diabetes.
In addition Bannatyne members will have their levels of alcohol
intake and stress levels analysed, with the results of the
screening incorporated into the healthy lifestyle advice offered by
Bannatynes professional fitness advisers.
Ms Sidhu, whose company also runs 7 Point Wellbeing Health
Screening clinics at Knowle and Birmingham, Broad Street,
said: "It is a privilege to work with a business of the calibre of
Bannatynes. They realise that in this age of such hectic
lifestyles, health is often overlooked. Although it's obvious, it
has to be pointed out that prevention really is better than cure.
It costs the country so much more to deal with lifestyle related
health problems than to minimise the risk of them happening in the
first place. Even more importantly lives and futures can be ruined
by serious illness. Often small adjustments are all that's needed
to ensure we can enjoy much healthier lives."
Mark Reynolds, General Manager of Bannatyne's Health Club in
Sutton Coldfield, said: "Working with Kiran is part of our
commitment to providing our members with a wide range of healthy
lifestyle opportunities and support. The screenings fit perfectly
alongside the ongoing practical assessments and advice we currently
offer our members.
