A residential and nursing home group originally established by a
couple from Mauritius has expanded to four homes following a
£3.9 million loan from Barclays Corporate.
ASHA Healthcare, managed by mother and son Sarojnee and Shane
Mahadoo, have purchased their fourth home - Kirkby Manor Nursing
Home in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottingham.
The business was established in 1985 by a couple who came to the
UK to train as nurses. Following their training and subsequent
marriage, the husband and wife team opened their first care home -
Newbrae Residential Home in Westcliff-on-Sea and were one of the
first care providers in the UK for people suffering with
dementia.
Since that time, and the family's subsequent move to the
Nottingham area, Mrs Sarojnee Mahadoo and her son, Shane have
expanded the family-run business with a further three homes, the
latest being Kirkby Manor, a purpose-built nursing home offering 40
beds for older people with mental illness.
In 2009, Mrs Mahadoo was joined in the business by her son, a
qualified lawyer, who has been instrumental in the purchase of
Camden Care Home and Forest Manor Nursing Home - all based in
Nottinghamshire.
Shane Mahadoo said: "Since the business was first established,
my parents had a clear vision for the high standard of care they
wanted to provide. These standards have been maintained throughout
all of our homes and something we will be continuing with at Kirkby
Manor.
"I am delighted that Barclays Corporate has supported us with
this latest phase in our development. From the outset I was very
impressed with Greg Allen our Relationship Director who took time
to listen to our plans, was eager to help and took a genuine
interest in our sector."
Relationship Director, Greg Allen said: "ASHA Healthcare have a
strong management team with a clear strategy for their future
development. I am delighted that we have been able to support them
with their latest expansion plans."
Advising ASHA Healthcare on this deal, was Robin Wright of
Fraser Brown Solicitors who has played an important role in the
purchase of all four Nottinghamshire homes. Commenting on the
purchase, Robin said: "I have been working on the Mahadoo expansion
for the last 3 years and it is very satisfying to see their steady
and unwavering growth when bigger operations have hit more troubled
times.
"This was a long and difficult transaction and what was
particularly good was the helpful attitude of Greg and his team
throughout."
ASHA Healthcare is keen to integrate with the local community in
Kirkby-in-Ashfield and will be looking to organise a number of
events to encourage local residents to visit the home.
