Halesowen-based chartered accountants Nicklin LLP completed
their leg of a national Olympic-style challenge on July 6th to
raise much-needed funds for Alzheimer's sufferers.
The firm took part in the UK200Group's "Not the Olympics 2012"
charity campaign, in aid of Alzheimer's Society. Participating
member firms have been tasked with relaying an Olympic-style torch
across the country in imaginative forms of transportation,
finishing at the Olympic Stadium in London in time for the Group's
annual conference in November.
So far, the torch has travelled through Perth, Glasgow,
Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesbrough, Scarborough, Harrogate, Hull,
Cheshire, Derby and Birmingham.
Having received the torch on 5th July, participating accountants
at Nicklin LLP took to the road to begin their 123 mile journey to
the offices of chartered accountancy firm Graham Paul in Cardiff,
Wales. Although the relay was the second longest throughout the
whole event, the accountants did however travel in style, in a
1940s Hudson classic car very generously lent by client Martin
Walford of Storm Windows.
Harvey Owen, Managing Partner at Nicklin LLP said: "It was a
fantastic day and travelling in the vintage 1940s Hudson was a real
novelty for partner's Chris Cook and Joanne Baldwin, who
participated in the relay. They only had one minor hiccup on the
way there but Martin from Storm Windows luckily came to the
rescue.
"We are proud to be part of the event that is in aid of such a
worthy cause. Alzheimer's affects around 465,000 people in the UK,
so we are grateful for all the support we have received so far from
clients and colleagues. The money is still coming in, but we know
it will help make a real difference to the lives of families
blighted by this terrible disease."
