Derbyshire firm Wildgoose Construction has started work on a
contract to build a state-of-the-art medical centre which will
serve more than 20,000 patients.
The primary care centre in Hume Street, Kidderminster, will
include two separate medical practices, Aylmer Lodge Surgery and
Northumberland House Surgery.
Each practice currently serves more than 10,000 patients and
both are working in premises that are too small for a modern
primary care service.
They are currently based on separate sites about half a mile
away, Northumberland House is in Stourport Road and Aylmer Lodge is
in Broomfield Road.
Ashover-based Wildgoose is due to complete the project, for
Haven Health Properties Ltd, in September 2012.
Work has started on demolishing a nine-storey building, which
was a former nurses' home, on the site.
The medical centre will include space for a minor surgery suite,
health education room, a pharmacy and a physiotherapy suite.
There will be more than 40 clinical rooms.
Tim Walker, managing director of Wildgoose Construction, said
they were delighted to be once again working with Haven Health on
this prestigious project.
He said: "The project, which includes the demolition of a
multi-storey building on the hospital site, is one of the most
challenging undertaken by the company and when completed will give
the people of Kidderminster a state-of-the-art primary care
facility that will be second to none in the area.
"We must thank Haven Health and their professional advisers for
putting their faith in our company by awarding us this contract and
we will be pulling out all the stops to ensure that the end product
will exceed Haven Health's aspirations and expectations."
