One of the UK's leading suppliers of castings has helped to
restore a 800 year old church, which was gutted by fire on
Christmas Eve 2007.
Majorfax, the Walsall provider of machined and finished
castings, has supplied architectural grille castings to St Nicholas
Church, Peper Harow, Godalming, as part of a £1.5 million
renovation of the church, which is being undertaken by Valley
Builders.
The new castings will be used to replace the original grilles in
the 14th century church, which suffered extensive damage to the
tower, roof of the nave and to the internal stonework and
ceilings.
Nick Smith, Technical Sales Manager at Majorfax, said: "We were
approached by Valley Builders to quote for the job and went down to
conduct a site visit. We saw the extent of the damage to the
existing castings, measured up and worked with the site supervisor
in person to develop rough patterns.
"We understood the importance of careful restoration on this
project and ensured that wesupplied the parts as a cast finish, so
they are in keeping with the church's historic design.
Ensuring the castings fitted in with the church's other fixtures
and fittings was quite a challenge but we managed it."
Dave Annetts, Contracts Manager for Valley Builders, which has
undertaken the renovation said: "Majorfax were recommended to us by
another manufacturer and were able to meet the specific brief for
this restoration project.
"We were very impressed with their expertise, service and
ability to produce quality castings on time and on budget."
The church, which was in regular use before the fire, is due to
reopen its doors to thepublic this month.
