to the Winners of the PTS Invitational
The 2011 PTS Invitational, which forms the Midlands leg of the
famous PGA tournament, once again had everyone on tenterhooks as
two golfers fought for victory on the greens of South Staffordshire
Golf Club. Former Ryder Club player Peter Baker came out on top,
winning £2,500 prize after a nail biting showdown with
Wellingborough golfer Simon Lilly.
The competition held from the 8th - 10th June, saw just three of
the 90 regional pros breaking par after 54 holes when four new
championship tees were added to the course. Lilly was the clear
leader on the first day with an impressive five under Par of 66,
leaving him five shots ahead.
The second day didn't go to plan for Lilly who halved his lead
following a double bogey on the 17th hole. This put Baker in a
strong position on the final day, producing a number of stunning
birdies to leave him two shots up for victory. He then successfully
took the title with one shot to spare.
Peter Baker commented "Wednesday was a frustrating round with a
few loose shots out there, but the last two days were steadier and
the putts dropped nicely too. I'm pleased with the win but even
happier with the success of the event, it's been a great week."
Kelvin Stevens, PTS Managing Director added: "The event was
hugely successful this year. We were overwhelmed by requests from
customers who wanted to attend following our sponsorship of this
event for the last two years with the support this year from Baxi,
Bristan, Intatec, Stelrad and Twyford. We're proud to support the
golfing talent in the Midlands and the region where our head office
is based"
The competition was also screened on Sky Sports on 23rd June.
