A 21 year-old carpentry apprentice has scooped a top accolade
after being named Apprentice of the Year by the Stourbridge-based
Western region of Mansell Construction Services.
Stephen Lediard, from West Bromwich, was given the award after
working on several major Mansell projects across the region.
Stephen regularly acts as an ambassador for Mansell and the
construction industry, attending events at local schools and
colleges to share with young people his experience of working in
construction.
He has now completed his apprenticeship and has progressed onto
Mansell's technical trainee programme as a trainee site manager. He
is in the second year of his BTEC National Certificate in
Construction.
He was presented with his award by site manager Wayne Gwilt and
Mansell training manager Jeremy Lydiatt.
This is Stephen's second year of success in Mansell's apprentice
awards. He was Highly Commended last year.
Mansell regional managing director, Steve Davies, said, "Mansell
puts a lot of effort into supporting and encouraging youngsters to
learn construction skills. We believe it is vital to ensure that
these key skills are maintained, and that young people see
construction as a career of choice."
He added, "Mansell fully supports career development through
apprenticeships and training schemes, and we take training
extremely seriously. Stephen is a great ambassador for Mansell and
for the construction industry in general. I am sure he will have a
great future with us."
