Leading West Midlands contracting group Shaylor is underway with
a number of new contract wins strengthening its expertise within
the education sector.
The projects which have a total construction value of £10
million range from the refurbishment of a number of primary schools
to the building of an innovative skills and learning centre.
Shaylor is working with Lend Lease to deliver the refurbishment
and new build projects at three primary schools across Birmingham
at Summerfield, Regents Park and Greet. These schools are the first
to be remodelled through the Primary Capital programme and will
expand the number of pupil places in response to a growing
population.
Shaylor Construction has also begun work on a new engineering
facility at North Warwickshire and Hinckley College.
The skills and learning centre at the Centre of Refurbishment
Excellence (CoRE) at Stoke-on-Trent will create a unique group of
'living' demonstration buildings, a skills and learning facility
and visitor hub. It is the only project of its kind in the
country and will be built on a former pottery site in the heart of
Longton - helping to fuse the old with the new.
The scheme is designed to help towards the Government's pledge
to create an 80% reduction in UK carbon emissions by 2050.
Funding has come from the Department of Children, Schools and
Families (DCSF) and Stoke-on-Trent City Council with further
funding being sought from the European Regional Development Fund
(ERDF).
