Employees from the Nottingham office of RSM Tenon are on a high
after 60 people from the accountancy firm scaled a total of 17
peaks in 24 hours to raise £10,000 for Cancer Research
UK.
The challenge, named Project Mustard, has seen three teams
simultaneously climb the Welsh 3000's, National Three Peaks and
Snowdon in just less than 24 hours despite adverse weather
conditions and a few injuries.
The idea was that all three teams would meet on the summit of
Snowdon during the afternoon of Saturday 11 June. In the event,
whilst all 3 teams made it to the top of Snowdon, the timing was
not perfect. The National 3 peaks team, due to various hold ups,
managed to reach the peak at around 8:00pm and only just got down
before the light faded. The participants and support teams then met
up for a hog roast and a well deserved beer or two at a nearby
campsite.
Here the teams celebrated their achievement and the life of Mark
Coleman, a friend and colleague at RSM Tenon, who died of cancer on
New Year's Eve 2010. Mark, who was diagnosed with skin cancer in
2009, died at the age of 44 leaving behind his wife Gail and three
young children.
Jonathan Reynolds, financial management director at RSM Tenon in
Nottingham and close friend of Mark, said, "The Welsh 3000s was the
hardest physical and emotional task that I have ever undertaken; it
was a great experience and is one that I will never forget.
Everyone who took part in Project Mustard will remember last
weekend and, most importantly, the reason why we where there. I am
extremely proud of the effort that everyone has put in and feel
that we participated in a fitting tribute to Mark. The great news
is that we are confident of raising well over £10,000 for
Cancer Research UK"
RSM Tenon has received some great support from both national and
local companies. Trekmates supplied guides for the National 3 Peaks
team and two Midlands companies, Practical Car and Van Rental and
Mertrucks, have supplied transport for the teams. Watchorn
Financial Services kindly funded the diesel costs for the National
3 Peaks team whilst the Welsh 3000s team had some valuable support
from Aviva and Legal and General.
Many clients and contacts have also shown their support with
generous donations. They include: CJ Upton and Sons Limited, Fat
Cats, Johns of Nottingham, Practical Car and Van (Leicester)
Limited, Lumbers Jewellers, Champions UK Plc, Colwick Hall,
Nottingham Racecourse, Leicestershire County Cricket Club, Juice
Creative Design Limited, Indigo (Melton Road, Leicester), Nelsons
Law, Handelsbanken, Moss Solicitors, Hotel Maiyango ... and many
more.
