A brand new affordable housing development set in the heart of
rural Leicestershire was officially opened amid celebrations by
local residents, councillors and VIPs recently.
The £1.5m* scheme, known as David Taylor Close on
Swepstone Road, Heather in honour of the former Member of
Parliament for North West Leicestershire, the late David Taylor MP,
was granted planning permission as a Rural Exceptions site to help
meet local housing needs.
Built in partnership with Loughborough-based contractor and
developer William Davis Ltd, Nottingham Community Housing
Association (NCHA), North West Leicestershire District Council and
the Homes & Communities Agency, the new development at David
Taylor Close will provide 11 new homes for the village, two of
which will be available for Rent to Homebuy† and nine for
rent.
Designed by NCHA architects with input from the planning
authority and local parish council, the central courtyard
configuration allows the development to blend seamlessly with the
village and its surroundings.
Mr Taylor's widow, Pamela Taylor and their family were on hand
to cut the ribbon to officially mark the opening of David Taylor
Close.
Eddie Davis, chairman, William Davis said: "Developments of this
nature are essential for the survival of rural communities and the
new homes at David Taylor Close go some way to alleviating the
shortage of affordable homes in these areas.
"This project is a true testament to the successful and long
term relationship we have with NCHA and we look forward to working
with them in the future.
The new development holds a mix of 6 x 2-bed houses, 2 x 3-bed
houses and 3 x 2-bed bungalows and has achieved an A+ 'Ourplace'
rating, a standard developed by North West Leicestershire District
that ensures a thorough approach to urban design and been awarded
Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) level 3 rating.
