Alcomet, the Midlands-based specialist supplier of electrical
metals and components, has received yet another prestigious award
for the development of its Guardian Security Products range.
The E.ON Changing Supplier Award for People and Culture was
given to Alcomet for demonstrating the success that can be achieved
when a supplier and customer work collaboratively sharing one
objective.
Alcomet's innovative Guardian Security Products range was
developed in response to the persistent problem of copper and
aluminium theft at electricity sub-stations in the Midlands region
and beyond.
Alcomet's joint managing director, Gary James worked closely
with specialist engineers at E.ON and a solution to the problem was
developed. The Guardian Security Products range provided a simple
and yet effective answer to a serious dilemma that had blighted the
power industry for decades.
Mr James said: "For those not directly involved in the power
industry the problem of metal theft may be viewed like any other
form of petty crime and yet the implications of stealing electrical
materials from electricity sub-stations have much wider
consequences.
"The stripping of copper earthing tape from a site can render it
hazardous and also result in a power cut, leaving businesses and
homes without electricity. The development of the Guardian has been
something that has helped the industry as a whole to improve site
safety and cut the costs of replacing an extremely valuable
commodity."
Two years ago Alcomet received the Queen's Award for Enterprise:
Innovation 2009 for the Guardian as well as being shortlisted in
the National Business Awards 'Business Innovation' category.
"I think the success of the Guardian really does demonstrate the
power of collaborative working because when two organisations share
the same vision, so much can be achieved:" adds Mr James.
Richard Cerutti of E.ON said: "Working in partnership with
suppliers to develop products and solutions is vital to our
continued success. It allows us to bring together many perspectives
and talents that will hopefully lead to innovative solutions that
improve operational effectiveness. I would like to congratulate
Gary and the whole Alcomet team on what is a thoroughly deserved
award."
