Midlands cosmetic surgeon Dalvi Humzah is backing a new
insurance initiative aimed at making surgery safer for patients at
home and abroad.
Based at The Nuffield Hospital, Wolverhampton and Ramsey
Healthcare West Midlands, Mr Humzah is the first cosmetic surgeon
in the region to sign-up to 'ISAPS's Cosmetic Surgeons' insurance
program - a new complication and rectification program launched by
Surgery Shield in partnership with the International Society of
Aesthetics Plastic Surgery (ISAPS).
It is particularly appealing for those travelling abroad for
treatment as it offers an exclusive 'fix at home' benefit, which is
only available from ISAPS surgeons, providing cover in the event
remedial or corrective surgery is required. Equally, the
cover offers the same after-care assurances for patients in the UK
undergoing treatment, without the 'fix at home'.
It means Mr Humzah can now offer patients in the UK and those
travelling to the UK for treatment at his private practice -
Plastic and Dermatological Surgery (PDS) - an indemnity to fund
corrective treatment, in the unlikely event corrective treatment is
required, with a dedicated ISAPS surgeon back in a patient's home
country.
Importantly, the program monitors complications and offers
re-training to surgeons who are not meeting the required low
complication rates. Data on claims and corrections will be
carefully monitored not only by insurers, but also a university
research project.
Mr Humzah said: "This is an important step forward in providing
greater reassurance for patients who decide to have cosmetic
surgery in the UK and for those travelling abroad.
"Equally, this is beneficial for both patients and surgeons. It
allows patients to better protect themselves by choosing a surgeon
registered with ISAPS insurance, and surgeons can publically
present their low complication rates and experience direct to
patients."
Mr Humzah will be included in a public directory of global ISAPS
surgeons who are members of the insurance program and UK surgeons
who are members of Surgery Shield. This will be made available to
patients at www.surgeryshield.com/directory.
Alison Thornberry, managing director of Surgery Shield said:
"We're delighted to have Mr Humzah on board as a member of our
ISAPS insurance program.
"His expertise and support is a real advantage in the industry
and it will help us actively promote the benefits of the safety
partnership to surgeons worldwide."
Designed by experts from the insurance and plastic surgery
industry, the insurance is underwritten by Lloyd's of London and
sold by Sure Insurance Service Limited under its trading umbrella
'Surgery Shield'.
