A nationwide aerial installation company has created 14 new jobs
for the unemployed in Coventry and Birmingham as it takes advantage
of the switchover from analogue to digital.
Euro Aerials Limited has taken on extra drivers and engineers to
cope with the increased workload.
Employment experts Pertemps People Development Group (PPDG) has
linked up with Euro Aerials and has provided the company with
successful candidates to fill the roles.
Euro Aerials, which is based in Harrogate, has fulfilled its job
requirements in the West Midlands area and is looking to recruit in
other areas of the country with Kent the next on the list.
Vacancies filled include positions as drivers, engineers and
handymen. Television is currently going digital from the existing
analogue TV with the switchover taking place in regional
stages.
It will mean that almost everyone will be able to receive
digital TV through an aerial and will offer people a greater choice
of channels and new features. The new job roles will see drivers
and engineers visit homes and install the new digital package.
In total 11 unemployed people in the Coventry area are now back
in employment at Euro Aerials after being helped by PPDG. Nine PPDG
clients were helped through the Flexible New Deal (FND) initiative
and the other two through Coventry New Deal for Communities
(NDC).
In Birmingham three job seekers were helped through the Working
Neighbourhood Fund programme (WNF). PPDG works with many different
employers to find jobs for thousands of people across the West
Midlands.
Nicki Lewis-Downing, PPDG employment engagement director, said:
"We have a fantastic working relationship with Euro Aerials and
have provided the company with 14 clients in the Coventry and
Birmingham areas who have all gone on to secure jobs as drivers and
engineers for the company. It really is fantastic news as some of
our clients have been unemployed for quite some time so it is just
wonderful to see them get back into employment again.
"We hope we will continue to work with Euro Aerials and provide
more jobs for them in the future. They are a nationwide company
whose engineers and drivers operate throughout the UK and as the
company expands there could be further opportunities for our
clients who are being helped by PPDG staff in offices throughout
the country."
Paul Maguire, managing director of Euro Aerials Limited, said:
"As an expanding nationwide company, it has been a bonus for us to
work with PPDG in filling our recruitment requirements for the West
Midlands. The digital switchover has certainly created additional
job opportunities including drivers and engineers.
"The substantial cost savings we have enjoyed by engaging with
their staff has been invaluable including advertising, candidate
selection, interview facilities, management time, PPDG have even
contributed towards employee's uniforms and CRB checks.
"All of the interviewees submitted were of an excellent calibre
enabling us to employ 14 engineers and drivers to help with the
switchover."
