Members of staff from Hilton Birmingham Metropole will cycle
from Hilton Puckrup Hall in Tewkesbury back to the hotel, based at
the National Exhibition Centre, on Saturday 11th June as part of
their annual "Around the World in a Day" event. All proceeds raised
from the cycling challenge will be donated to local charity
Cyclists Fighting Cancer.
The "magnificent seven" Chrissy Dunkley, Aaron Baker, Denise
Fitzharris, Sean Guest, Leanda Pike, Tim Samson and Chris Shilton,
have been training hard and raising the much needed funding for
Cyclists Fighting Cancer and are now in the final stages of
preparation for their 53 mile challenge.
'Cyclists Fighting Cancer' donates bikes, specially adapted
tricycles and tandems to children and young people affected by
cancer. This has been proved to be a great way to encourage
kids and teenagers to get active again after what can be years of
treatment and hospitalisation. It is especially effective for those
children who have permanent conditions such as lost limbs, sense of
balance, muscle weakness and co-ordination.
Patrick Stapleton, general manager Hilton Birmingham Metropole
said: "The cyclists have already raised some much needed money for
CFC and in this final week we're really pushing to meet our target.
We're also hosting a charity barbecue so it will be a great day for
all involved."
The fundraiser is part of a continental wide challenge organised
by Hilton in the Community Foundation, the official charity of
Hilton Worldwide in Europe. Hotel team members, charity partners
and the public will all be working together in June across more
than 100 hotels in eight countries. They will collectively attempt
to virtually travel 24,901.55 miles, the circumference of the
earth, all in aid of charities supporting ill and disadvantaged
children and young adults, chosen by each hotel.
